Why most modern countermeasures against uavs don't really work.

Effective counter only for slow non-maneuvering UAVs/copters.


  • Ineffective if the intruder's UAVs / copter propellers is protected by Drone Cage or Propeller Guard.
  • Copters have lower speed than many UAVs - copter carrier of net is not able to catch up UAV intruder.
  • Even with a tangled propeller, UAV is capable to continue its attack in planning mode.
  • Cannot be used in strong wind conditions or high speed (entangle the net).

The most common, simple and relatively effective method of counter against amateur (factory) copters / UAVs .


It's useless against professional UAVs with professional or protected / modified board electronics. 


  • An UAV intruder can continue attack even with a jammed positioning system & control channels - in autonomous mode guided by AI, or an inertial navigation system.
  • Electronic warfare is not able to jamming effectively floating-frequency communication channels. High-quality equipment for a communication channel and an intruder drone is practically invulnerable - controlled by operator via visual channel. This has been proven practically in Donbass, Siria, Nagorno-Karabakh hostilities.

A subspecies of electronic warfare.


Are practically useless at distances more than ~300 meters, even against amateur drones.


  • The inverse square law of distance - portable gun is simply not capable to generate a signal of sufficient strength for damage board electronics, even elementary calculations prove it. Maximum effect is jamming of the position system, communication channels.
  • Very accurate aiming at the target (narrow beam) is necessary, at long distances the operator simply does not see the target or / and physically cannot hold the target.
  • Board electronic of the UAV can be protected even against large ground electromagnetic gun with tens kilowatts of the emission power.

Effective only against amateur slow small size drones.


  • This method has obvious problems with attack of fast-flying (speed difference) and maneuverable targets (UAVs).
  • Ineffective against large UAVs/copters (50 kg and more) - the attack drone elementary will not be able to damage it (mass difference).
  • The intruder's copter can be equipped with protection (enhanced Drone Cage) and this countermeasure method completely loses its relevance.

Effective but extremely expensive and difficult to maintain and use solutions.


  • Restrictions export of the technology.
  • Inappropriate against micro drones (cost of launch) for missile systems.
  • Difficult for civilian use.



The most common method of counter with UAVs today - Electronic warfare, is not capable to resist all threats fully.

”It is necessary to treat the disease and not fight the symptoms.”


An effective, efficient and in really working method of countering intruder UAVs / copters must have the following requirements:


  • the ability to counter small and large UAVs.
  • the ability to work at high altitudes (kilometer and more).
  • large effective radius.
  • to be able to counteract UAVs flying at high speeds and maneuvering.
  • counteract with a protected UAVs: Protection of on-board electronics and positioning system from electromagnetic interference. Protection props from nets and construction from cinematic attacks (drone cage).
  • to counteract the UAV operating in autonomous mode without radio control.


Considering all this requirements, the most effective method of counter an intruder's UAV is to destroy/damage its mechanical part (carrier) by warhead installed on high speed and maneuverable interceptor drone.
